In late 2014, a small group of established Fremantle artists came together spontaneously with the idea to open their homes and studios to the public for one weekend. At short notice, over 400 people visited and Artwalk Freo was born.
Building on the success of that inaugural event, Artwalk Freo became a biennial event and in September 2015, May 2017 and June 2019 the artists again opened to the public and had a fabulous response! Unfortunately in 2021, COVID-19 had other ideas and the event has since been on hiatus.
The creative process can be a solitary one and people rarely have the opportunity to glimpse inside a working studio and observe. An artist's studio is where all the inspiration, work sketches, thoughts and ideas merge together to become something wonderful. For Artwalk Freo visitors, being able to walk around and soak in that creative atmosphere, and discuss concepts with the artists can be an insightful and inspiring experience!
Artwalk Freo will be on regardless of the weather forecast: if you're game so are we! There will also be artist talks held spontaneously during the day in each studio. Refreshments and other treats can be purchased at various studios along the way, courtesy of community groups. Other points of interest and pit stops are listed on the Artwalk Freo maps.
Follow us on Facebook or Instagram and watch this space for further information closer to the event.
Artwork will be available for sale directly from each studio on the day. Artists will have their own payment options [cash, credit card, direct deposit and lay-by] and Artwalk Freo takes no commission from these sales.
